The season of Lent begins this month and it is a season of preparation for Easter. The forty days of Lent commemorate the forty days when Jesus was in the desert, learning to resist the temptations of the world, the flesh and the devil. And we, as his followers, are encouraged to try to practise self-discipline during this season.

Ash Wednesday, which falls on February 18th this year, marks the start of the season of LENT and is regarded by all Christian denominations as a major Day of Obligation, that is, a day when all Christians should try to attend Holy Communion and receive the sacrament. This year there will be two celebrations of Holy Communion in St Peter’s Church, Edgmond: in the morning at 9.30 am (BCP) and evening at 7.00 pm (CW), both of which will include the ancient and scriptural ceremony of Ashing.

The Bishop of Lichfield's 2015 Lent Appeal is themed 'Stewards and Students' The annual Appeal supports causes at home and abroad. The 'away' element will again support the development of Christian leaders in our partner diocese of Matlosane, South Africa, while the 'home' element will creatively challenge us to think how we follow God's command to care for creation. The Lent Appeal has a particular ability to reach people and situations that don’t easily fit other charities’ criteria.’

There will be a Traidcraft stall in St. Peter’s Church following the 10.30am service on 8 March.

Since an updated catalogue has been released this will be a good opportunity for you to see the new products and also to buy your favourites. Lucy and Suna Gibbs have attended a ‘road show’ so they will have details of what new items are available.
